Milena Oda was born in the Czech Republic.

Milena Oda studied German, history, English, French and the theater theory at the Palacky University in Olomouc (CZ), Bayreuth (D), Cambridge (GB), Salzburg (A), Klagenfurt (A) and Düsseldorf (D).

In 1996 she received a scholarship abroad at the University of Bayreuth.
In 1999 she moved to Salzburg and in addition to her regular seminars at the University she also studied theater/playwright at the Mozarteum.
She completed her M.A. dissertation in 2001 in Olomouc (CZ.) and Klagenfurt (Austria), where she also worked at the municipal theatre.

After she moved to Düsseldorf, Germany, 2001. She continued working in the theatre, Schauspielhaus Duesseldorf and aswell as a dramaturgy assistant and began writing prose, as well as poetry, drama and journalism (Radio WDR, Der Freitag, Prager Zeitung, Literární noviny etc.).

Milena Oda writes novel, prose, shortstories, plays, poetry and essays in German, Czech and English.

She writes in German since 2000.

She has received numerous scholarships and awards and has participated in prestigious competitions such as the Open Mike (2002) and the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition (2007). "Nennen Sie mich Diener" (Please Call Me Servant), is her first novel, appeared in Germany in 2011 by SchumacherGebler Dresden and her prose "Ferenc", bilingual in Czech and German by Verzone in Prague.

She was nominated 2007 for the Ingeborg-Bachmann-Prize - the most known prize for the German-writing authors.

2011/Fall was she a participant at the International Writing Program in Iowa City (IWP http://iwp.uiowa.edu/writers/index.html).

Milena Oda works as a editor of the newspaper Bosch-Zünder for the Group Bosch, translator (translation f.ex: Jachym Topol by Suhrkamp) and as an author for radio WDR/Collogne and German and Czech cultural newspapers.

She lives and works now in Prague, Berlin and New York.
